Feminine

At first I was going to let this post speak for itself, as I didn't want to be too 'in your face', but then I changed my mind. I changed my mind because there is nothing offensive about this post. I do wonder why people get so defensive when they hear the word 'feminist'. I think the word is often misinterpreted or misunderstood. According to the Oxford Dictionary feminism is described as follows: 'The advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes'.

Equality is something that I take very seriously, not only in the case of the sexes but for all people and all races. However I find it strange that still in this day and age, people do not want to associate themselves with the word 'feminist'. I have had conversations with male and female friends who clearly agree with equality, however they are quick to deny that they are a feminist, this bewilders me.

There is an attitude that I notice in many aspect of life, that seems to crop up as soon as a person isn't experiencing what another person is. A simple example of this would be this: There are two people, one is naturally warm and the other is naturally cold. As soon as the cold person mentions that they are cold, the warm person will insist: "It's not cold!" However, just because the warm person is not experiencing the cold, this does not mean that the cold person is not cold, it does not mean that what they are experiencing is not true.

This same way of thinking is often I find applied towards other peoples experiences in relation to equality. When a person who is experiencing inequality speaks out, they are sometimes met with the attitude that their experiences are not true or relevant, because other people are not experiencing the same and therefore cannot seem to comprehend another persons experiences. We need to open our minds, listen and understand each others experiences, to see the world through each others eyes so that we may make a world where everybody is equal, because that is how it should be.

  5. I know I'm partially missing the point of this post but your outfit is great! I agree with the feminist thing in that everyone is scared of admitting it because no-one truly knows what it means - including me! I am guilty.

  6. I love the layering you've done here, Marianne! The white shirt layered under the sweater looks so polished and creates a bit of a preppy feel, while your all black pantone and shoes create a bit of an edgier vibe, I love the way the two blend together. I'm getting some '90s vibes and I love it! Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful day, beauty!

  11. It's so crazy how so many people don't understand that 'feminism' is simply gender equality! It really annoys me that people immediately go to visions of bra burners and man haters. As a fellow feminist I salute you! The jumper over the shirt looks amazing and the leather jacket really adds to it too. The double buns look so cute on you too

  12. First of all, you look gorgeous and I want that sweater! Second, I agree with you! Just like with rape. When the victim speaks up no one believes him/her because other people have never experienced it. It is just appalling to hear people's disbelief. Like, how do you know it never happened? And third, I guess people have a negative connotation for the word 'feminist' because of media has portrayed the meaning of the word. There are a few extremists who have pushed the meaning of the word to the extreme. :)

As for feminism, as I agree with the dictionary that women's rights should be fought for on a basis of sex equality.
