Nip and Tuck

Modified images of people are everywhere, not only that, modified bodies are everywhere! Everyday we are constantly bombarded with theories of the ideal body image and the issue isn’t going away.  Everyday we are encouraged to compare our bodies to others but why!? Why do we feel the need to change our beautiful bodies? We are all under pressure to meet unnatural and unrealistic standards of beauty. and it can be exhausting!

Comparing our bodies also encourages us to adopt this judgemental attitude towards others and we can become part of the problem. There is always a craze in the media, weather it’s Kim Kardashian’s butt or Pamela Andersons body. There is so much profit to be made out of making women feel insecure about themselves.
I am amazed by the amount of products and procedures that are available for us today. From waist trainers, to booty bras and plastic surgery, there are so many ways to try and achieve your 'ideal' body. Low self esteem amongst teenage girls and young women is currently at a major high, and it isn’t getting any better. So what can we do? It’s a massive problem and there are so many contributing factors, from the media, to female objectification, social pressures, expectations and the fact that we buy into it all. I think a good place to start is with ourselves.

So let’s walk proudly, lets not be manipulated, lets not be ashamed of our bodies but let’s appreciate our bodies and the amazing ways that they work. When the weight of the pressures overpower you, pick yourself up, dust the dirt of your shoulders and carry on! Let’s continue the journey of self acceptance and as we do we can influence the world around us too.

Lastly I am going to leave you with this inspiring video by Jubilee Project. Please watch and be inspired.

  1. Great post! It's so horrible, the pressure to be perfect that nearly everyone is now self conscious of their body... Even those who really have no need to be (well no one should but you know what I mean). The world is such a judgemental place right now :( xx

  3. This is great post! I couldn't agree more with you, there is always this push to obtain something better! It makes it extremely difficult to be happy with ourselves, but like you said, I think it's very important!

  4. I was just watching a youtube video about a girl who was photoshopped so heavily she looked like a Victoria's Secret model while in reality she was something completely different!
Its such a trap to think that everyone is so so so perfect when in reality it is just...photoshop!
    Following you :)

    1. Hi Anastasia!
Yes, I believe that I have seen that video. people often don't realise how often images have been altered. No matter how beautiful you may be considered, I think everybody feels uneasy about something.

      Thank you!

      Much love, Marianne x

  5. Well said and great post. I think what's lacking in the world is self-love - just loving yourself and being comfortable with being you. I can't believe I haven't come across this video sooner! Really amazing and inspiring, thanks a lot for sharing it!
